The Thai Trade
The Thai Trade project is concerned with representing trade data relevant to Thailand and South East Asia. While living among farming communities where the traditional Thai lifestyle still persists in the suburbs outside Chiang Mia, Thailand, I was interested in representing agricultural imports and exports, relevant to the region. The visual systems and motifs used in encoding the visual language reference eastern religious traditions and rituals prevalent in Thailand.

Brian Bulfer is interested in the external representation of social and physical data. Referencing religious aesthetic forms, images and rituals that are often associated with transcendence of mind and body, Brian is more interested in how repetitive and concentrative rituals relate with cognitive abilities. In his work he develops numerous visual symbol systems that reference different cognitive modes, moving one from sensory phenomenon to the symbolic. Ultimately the data used becomes a part of a non-discrete narrative between computational models and empirical data.
